Benefit Performances for Eastern Market
On May 26, Catalyst began a year-long effort to help Eastern Market rebuild after the devastating fire on April 30, 2007. Over the next year, Catalyst will hold 10 benefit performances from which all ticket proceeds will go directly to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation, which is spearheading fundraising efforts to support Eastern Market.
“We’ve been a part of the Eastern Market community for about 5 years now,” said Artistic Director Scott Fortier, “and many of us live in the neighborhood. We were all devastated by the fire and want to do what we can to help Eastern Market rebuild.” Because it will take time for Eastern Market to get back on its feet, “we didn’t want to make the benefit a one-time effort we know it may be two years before things get back to normal and we think we can help in our own small way.”
The first benefit performance was held at the May 26 matinee of The Flu Season. The dates of the remaining 9 benefit performances are as follows:
- October 3-5, 2007 (7:30pm): The Trial, by Franz Kafka, adapted and directed by Christopher Gallu;
- January 30- February 2, 2008 (7:30pm): Swimming in the Shallows, by Adam Bock, directed by Scott Fortier;
- May 7-9, 2008 (7:30pm): Crumble (Lay Me Down Justin Timberlake), by Sheila Callaghan, directed by Shirley Serotsky.
